Warner Bros is cancelling big titles costing them millions of dollars

Last month, Warner Bros merged with Discovery Inc, which meant a change in leadership for the company as a whole. First of all, the company is cancelling some big titles. Batgirl is the first on the chopping block, the movie was in post-production and cost around 90 million dollars to make. Insiders say that "the new owners and management, led by CEO David Zaslav, are committed to making DC titles big theatrical event films, and “Batgirl” isn’t that."  It is sad to see the movie go, as it was also set to star Michael Keaton as Batman alongside Leslie's Grace's Batgirl.

It is very rare for movies to get cancelled so late in production but not only did Batgirl get cut but also the second Scoob! movie, Scoob!: Holiday Haunt. These are definitely surprising announcements as both of those movies come from profitable franchises. However, it turns out that those aren't the only changes that are coming with the new merger.

It's been talked about that HBO Max and Discovery Plus are going to join together but rumor is that HBO Max will be cut, and all its content absorbed into Discovery Plus. That definitely comes as a surprise to me, since HBO Max is such a popular streaming service and Discovery Plus is...not. The studio probably had their reasons for cancelling those movies, but it looks like the merger will definitely be shaking things up and I'm interested to see what happens next.
