Rick Riordan sets possible new release window for Percy Jackson and The Olympians series

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a series of books that brings Greek mythology into modern times. It focuses on Percy Jackson who discovers that he has weird powers and is being hunted by monsters, he goes to a camp for demigods and ends up going on a quest to recover Zeus's lightning bolt. The first two books have been adapted before as movies in 2010 and 2013. Those movies were met with poor reception by both critics and fans of the books. Riordan himself wasn't even fond of the movies.

Thankfully, we now have a series coming to us on Disney Plus that is supposed to stay true to the series and have the author heavily involved. The series has started filming and while it originally was set to release sometime next year, Riordan is now saying that is more likely to release in 2024. Riordan wrote this in his blog, "“Now that I have a somewhat better understanding of the work involved, here’s what I am estimating: It’s probably going to take us through December or into January to film all the episodes of season one, which is roughly one month of filming per episode (eight episodes total)…That means post-production will begin in early 2023, when the pieces are fitted together, edited and augmented with all the special effects and sound. This process also takes months and months.”

They have already cast for the show with Walker Scobell from The Adam Project as the titular character. Also, newcomers Leah Savra Jeffrey and Aryan Simhadri as Annabeth and Grover respectively. Jason Mantzoukas who played roles in comedy shows like Brookly nine-nine, Parks and Rec, The Good Place, and Big Mouth is cast as Mr. D. I definitely think that his casting is *chef's kiss* perfection, but I don't really know the other actors that have been cast in the show.

Overall, I think this show has a lot of potential. The books were great and beloved by many, and as long as they stay true to the source material then I think the show will be great. They haven't really stayed true to the source material as far as the look of the cast, especially the main trio, but hopefully they keep the story and feel the same.
