Exciting New MCU Characters Debuting in 2022 That You Should Know About

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been going strong since 2008 with no sign of slowing down. Phase 4 movies kicked off last year with Black Widow and plenty of other movies and series for fans to devour, most notably the new Spiderman movie which has gained praise from fans and critics alike. Hopefully 2022 will deliver even more of that MCU flair with three movies and four Disney Plus series on the way. Even though there are lots of new characters that we don't even know about yet, here are the confirmed new MCU characters debuting this year.

Miss America
Miss America, America Chavez, is a fairly new marvel comics character debuting in 2011. She is a character from a dimension that is outside of the multiverse. After her parents sacrificed themselves to save the universe, Chavez herself decided to become a superhero. She has been a part of many teams including the Teen Brigade, the Young Avengers, and even the all-female A-Force. She will be appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and will probably play a big part in the multiversal storyline. Not only does she have super strength, super speed, and flight but she also has the power to travel across time and the multiverse. I think that her ties to the Young Avengers will eventually come into play in the MCU as many members of the team have been popping up in phase 4.

Gorr the God Butcher
Gorr is a villain with your typical backstory of his family getting killed and then him blaming someone else for it. The difference with Gorr is that his beef was with the gods themselves. Gorr is from a violent planet and when he prayed for the gods to help his family and they died anyway, he assumed there were no gods. When he found out that the gods were real but did nothing he decided to go on a killing spree and kill a bunch of gods from different mythologies. Even though Thor was able to beat him, it took the support of all the other gods to do it. Now that Zeus has been confirmed for Thor: Love and Thunder, Gorr might just end up with a lot of gods to deal with in Thor's new movie. The most exciting thing about this character is that he's being played by Christian Bale. Gorr is nearly immortal, with super strength and the power to control darkness.

Iron Heart
Riri Williams is a new character that is going to be introduced in Black Panther 2 but I'm not sure if she will end up donning the Iron Heart armor until she gets her own TV show next year. Williams is a young hero whose genius is definitely gonna be giving Shuri a run for her money. In the comics she loses her best friend and stepdad in a shooting and that's when she decides to finish the Iron Man inspired armor that she'd been working on. She ended up taking out a couple of bad guys and Tony is so impressed that he becomes her mentor. Sadly, that can't happen in the MCU, but we know that he'll be an inspiration and maybe War Machine, Pepper Potts or even Shuri will be able to mentor her in the MCU. There has also been rumors of Namor making his debut appearance in the new Black Panther which would be really cool, and it would be nice to finally see him get the spotlight he deserves.

Ms. Marvel
Kamala Khan's Ms. Marvel is the first Muslim Superhero to headline her own project and she actually might be the first superhero of middle eastern descent to appear in the MCU at all. In the comics Ms. Marvel is an Inhuman who gets her powers from the terrigen mists. She is a superhero fangirl who grew up in a traditional Muslim household. The hero that she idolized the most however, is Captain Marvel who she will eventually share the screen with in Captain Marvel's second movie. Ms. Marvel is a polymorph who has the power to stretch her body like Mister Fantastic and even shapeshift. However, it sounds like Marvel Studios is going in a different direction with her series and instead giving her bracelets that give her the ability to create energy constructs like Green Lantern. I am a little bit skeptical about this change, but I am excited to see how it plays out.

Red Dagger
Red Dagger is another new hero that will be debuting in the Ms. Marvel series, and he is another hero of Pakistani descent. However, even though Kamala's character grew up in America, Red Dagger grew up in Pakistan and has been midnighting as a vigilante there. He doesn't really have superpowers but uses throwing knives to take down bad guys. It seems like he will probably be a love interest for Ms. Marvel in the show

Moon Knight
Moon Knight is finally debuting with his own series on Disney Plus. Moon Knight is often described as Marvel's Batman but he's actually so much more than that. Marc Spector was left for dead in an Egyptian desert but was saved by Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon. He became the Moon Knight and gained super strength when the moon was out and an array of gadgets from the moon god himself. However this also came with consequences, shattering Spector's mind and giving him multiple personality disorder. Moon Knight will be played by Oscar Isaac and I'm so excited to see what they do with this character.

Midnight Man
Midnight Man is set to be the villain of the Moon Knight series, he is a master thief and a martial artist who can hold his own against Moon Knight. In the comics Midnight Man stole priceless artifacts and works of art but kept them for himself instead of selling them. He was apprehended by Moon Knight and ended up being horribly scarred from falling into the river and being washed into the sewer. I didn't know you could be physically scarred by sewer waste, but it happened to this guy. Not only that but he came home to find out his stolen goodies were gone. He ends up going crazy and dying off in the comics.

She-Hulk
It's about time that She-Hulk arrives in the MCU. She is an important member of not only the Avengers but the Fantastic Four temporarily. Jennifer Walters is a lawyer who after getting shot is given a blood transfusion from her cousin, Bruce Banner. She becomes the She-Hulk and even though she can get pretty angry, she is a lot more in control than her cousin, Bruce. What makes her new series so exciting is that it's being marketed as a legal comedy, and she'll be breaking the fourth wall just like she does in some of her comics. Tatiana Maslany's She-Hulk will be a great addition to the MCU.

Titania
Titania is probably She-Hulk's archenemy and has a similar power set. There have been two different versions of Titania in the comics but I'm assuming that it's the second one because she clashed with She-Hulk the most. In the comics Titania gets her powers from Docter Doom during the Secret Wars and eventually ends up marrying the Absorbing Man. More recently however, Titania and her husband have taken more of a turn to the heroic side and ended up saving Black Bolt's life. It's a possibility that Titania could eventually turn good, but she'll be starting out as the villain in the new She-Hulk series. She'll be played by Jameela Jamil who is more well known for her comedic roles so it will be interesting to see how her character turns out.
